This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and handle your personal information.

Information We Collect

We collect personal information that you provide when using Villo. This includes registration and profile data such as your name, email address, phone number, physical address (for deliveries or pickups), and any identity documents (e.g. government ID) you upload for verification We also collect transaction data (rental dates, amounts, item details) and payment information (processed via Stripe) as needed to run the service. Additionally, we may automatically gather technical data about your device and how you use our web/mobile app (for example, browser/app usage, IP address, device identifiers, and cookies).

Use of Information

We use your personal data to operate and improve Villo. For example, we use your contact details and ID to set up and verify your account, to facilitate rentals between users, and to communicate booking confirmations or support messages. We may also use your information to send you service announcements or optional marketing messages (only if you consent). In short, your information is used to provide and personalize the service (e.g. showing listings, enabling payments, sending alerts) and to maintain security and compliance (e.g. fraud prevention, legal obligations).

Payment Data (Stripe)

Villo uses Stripe, a trusted third-party payment processor, for all transactions. As Press RI notes for a similar reservation service, “we use Stripe to securely process payments… we do not store your credit card information, but may store transaction-related data”. In practice, this means your full card details never touch Villo’s servers – Stripe handles encryption and storage under PCI standards. We receive only confirmation of payment amounts and transaction success. We do share necessary transaction data (such as the payment amount and order details) with Stripe to complete each rental.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties. We only share information in limited ways: for instance, your name and delivery address are provided to the other party in a rental (so the Owner can ship or you can pick up the gear). We also share required data with service providers: Stripe (for payment processing), hosting providers, and analytics or email services that help run Villo. We may disclose your information if compelled by law (e.g. subpoenas) or to protect our or users’ legal rights. Otherwise, your data stays within Villo and our trusted partners.

Cookies and Tracking:

We use cookies and similar technologies to enhance your experience (e.g. keeping you logged in, remembering preferences) and to analyze site usage. For example, cookies help speed up the rental process and allow us to see how users move through Villo’s webapp. You can usually manage cookies through your browser settings, but disabling cookies may affect site functionality.

Data Storage and Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your data. Payments are processed over SSL-secured connections, and Stripe handles encryption of financial data. However, no internet service can be 100% secure, so you share data at your own risk. We retain your personal information only as long as necessary: for example, we keep transaction and payment records for accounting and legal compliance, and we delete or anonymize data when it’s no longer needed (unless a longer retention is required by law).

Your Rights

You can access and update your profile information in account settings. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time by following the unsubscribe link in emails. If you wish to delete your account, contact us; we will delete your personal data as required, except any records we must keep for legal or tax reasons.

Villo is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
